About the Museum

The Town Museum of Týn nad Vltavou, a town mentioned first in 1229, was established in 1932. At the present time, it is housed in the building of the former mansion of Prague archbishops, which was build at the end of the 17th century.

Permanent Displays

There are many remarkable displays at the Museum. The visitor is invited to learn about the history of the town and the region, to experience the romantic atmosphere of the raft voyage and the salt trade, whose important centre was Týn nad Vltavou. An extraordinary importance is attributed to the collection of moldavite, unique semi-precious stones created during the Ries meteorite impact 14.5 million years ago. The Museum displays present also significant personalities of the region with the world-famous theatre director Alfréd Radok, a co-creator of Laterna Magika, the first multimedia theatre in the world, at the head. All visitors will be enchanted by the exhibition of historical puppets.
